XSeed Games has launched their latest shop simulation game Potionomics which is now available on Steam.

With just barely three days since it became available, this new shop simulator has been gaining traction with the gaming community with its interesting story and gameplay.

Shop simulator games are easy to pick up but each game developer has a different take on each game that could leave some a bit confused when starting their first Playthrough.

In this guide, we will be walking you around the different gameplay mechanics that  Potionomics is different from other shop management games.

Beginners guide to Potionomics

Before we begin, we would like to acknowledge Backlog Battle for his explanations on the different gameplay mechanics.

We tested this game with his explanations in mind and managed to complete and unlock a couple of the levels and objectives with his Help.

Time Segment

Every action you make or take uses up time segments. The time segment dial is located at the top left corner of the map. It represents the time of day as well as the day and night cycles.

Time Segment calculations

The game calculates the time segment by excluding the time segment you are in. For example, if you use a card to open up shop, that takes two-time segments of your game.

If you started setting up shop and set it up early morning like where the yellow arrow is pointing at the left image, it calculates 2-time segments, bringing it three segments forward like the image to the right.

Learning how time works in this game will save you some time in being efficient in doing the different game tasks and features later on.

How to acquire materials

Focus on acquiring different materials when you start your game. You can do this in three ways.

By funding Baptiste’s Expeditions, helping Mint Clear hunting levels, or purchasing unlocked material items from Quinn.

Quin’s Boutique

You can purchase ingredients from Quin when he has the items available. To Unlock other ingredients that he doesn’t have for sale, you will need to feed him the items for them to become available the following day.

Giving newly discovered items to Quinn should be your priority so you can have them available in the game.

Mint’s Adventure

To get new and existing ingredients, you will have to send Mint out to adventure. Mint will let you choose an area on the map where she tries to clear the area and collect ingredient materials for you.

You will have to supply her with potions on her adventuring so she clears them easily.

Baptiste’s Expeditions

Acquiring materials from Baptiste will have you funding his expeditions. Based on the investment you put up, the number of rewards you get will increase. He also has a small chance of bringing home new ingredients from his expeditions so be sure to check out for those.

Baptiste isn’t available early in the game so you will have to do a few tasks before he becomes available.

Every new material you get from mint and Baptiste should be given to Quin. That way, you won’t have to rely on them dropping and can purchase them at the ingredient boutique after one day.

Crafting Potions

This is where Potionomics shine in our opinion. Crafting potions isn’t done simply by brewing the right ingredients or having high-quality ingredients to create them.

Achieving perfect balance

One thing to focus on when creating potions is the number of mahimins that you are using (left photo) while keeping an eye on the balance of magimins in the potion.

Using the right amount of ingredients, maximizing their effectivity, and keeping the perfect balance on these potions affect the potion level, pricing, and quantity.

Which translates to good revenue for your shop for faster shop upgrades.

Shop upgrades

Once Muktuk becomes available, upgrade your shelves first then proceed with the other upgradable items on the list.

New shelves mean better-priced potions. Additional shelves also increase the number of options you can display which increases their chances of being sold per day.

Other upgradable items such as the cauldron are pretty much self-explanatory. The cauldron enhances potion brew quality and should be the next item you should focus on upgrading.

Shop expansions

Once you have enough materials and need more room for your shop, head over to Safron’s shop for extra space upgrades. Although, when starting early on in the game, focusing on upgrading your shelves, and cauldrons, and adding a few pedestals should be your main priority instead of making new room for your shop.

And that’s all you need to know to get you started in Potionomics. We hope this guide will set you up nicely on your first playthrough.
