The Stendarr’s Mercy quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will require you to lift a curse from a man called Kellen.

Strangely enough, this curse also seems to be tied to the Gauntlets of the Crusader, which were worn by one of Kellen’s ancestors. If you wish to take the gauntlets yourself, you’ll also need to free Kellen of his curse.

That’s exactly what we’ll help you with, too! Read on and we’ll tell you how to lift Kellen’s curse as part of this quest.

How to Lift Curse from Kellen During Stendarr’s Mercy Quest | Oblivion Remastered

If you’re here, we assume you’re already at the point where you’ve been told about Kellen and his curse. But, just to recap, this part of the quest is right after you learn that the Gauntlets of the Crusader in the Chapel of Stendarr (Chorrol) can’t be moved and that they have ties with Kellen’s curse.

At this point, talk to Areldur, the priest in the chapel. Inquire about the gauntlets and he’ll tell you to talk to Kellen about the curse.

You can find Kellen himself in the Chapel Hall. You can reach it by going downstairs from the main section of the chapel, as shown above.

Once you meet Kellen, ask him about the curse as Areldur told you. He’ll explain his situation. Then, also choose to inquire further about Areldur.

After speaking with Kellen, return to Areldur. Talk with him about the Curse and Kellen. He’ll tell you that the only way to free Kellen from the curse is to pray to Stendarr for mercy.

Take the Curse Upon Yourself

Heed Areldur’s words and approach the circular Altar of the Nine in the middle of the chapel. Interact with it and you’ll get the prompt to pray to Stendarr. Simply select yes when prompted. This will give you the Lay Hands Spell, which you can use to free Kellen!

As such, return to Kellen and cast Lay Hands on him. Kellen will be freed from the curse, but you’ll take it upon yourself. This means you now have the Curse of the Consumed effect, which damages your Fatigue constantly. Prioritize continuing the Knights of the Nine quests after this one, as that will cleanse the effect!

In the meantime, it’s a good idea to check out our Alchemy guide. You can make strong potions that Restore Fatigue to help counteract the curse’s effects. This should help you while you work towards the rest of the quest line.

Regardless, Kellen is now free of his curse. This also means that you can now freely pick up the Gauntlets of the Crusader! Return to them and grab them to finish the Stendarr’s Mercy quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. You can now return to the Priory of the Nine to continue the questline.
