There are many small side activities to discover and complete in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and some of them may feel difficult or confusing at first until you notice the solution staring you in the face. The Troubadours side quest is one such activity, as you might be struggling to figure out how to get the lute from that one person’s house. Here is how to do it!

How to Get the Lute in the Troubadours Quest

During the Troubadours side quest, you are going to be tasked with acquiring the carpenter’s lute from his home in Troskowityz. To get it, you will want to wait until night time, because your only option is to steal the lute from his house.

Unfortunately, you can’t really just walk in, especially since there are guards with torches nearby. Instead, make your way to the back of the carpenter’s house. There, you will find an open gate that leads to the back of the house, which is completely unguarded.

KCD2 directions to carpenter's house

Put on your best stealth clothing to reduce your visibility and noise as much as possible, and avoid holding a torch for obvious reasons. You are doing something illegal anyway, so why not break another law?

Head over to the door and pick the lock. If you are struggling with this mechanic, check out our guide on how to lockpick doors in the game for a few tips on how to get it done. Once you are inside, just head to the southwestern part of the house.

It is going to be very dark inside, but near one of the windows, you should eventually see the lute hanging from the wall. Sneak your way over to that corner of the house and grab it.

KCD2 stealing the lute at night

Upon stealing the lute, your quest objective should update, and the next steps are pretty straightforward from here on out. Just walk out of the house and whip out your torch once you are no longer trespassing to avoid attracting a guard’s attention.

That is really all there is to this. As long as you avoid going through the front gate, you should not have any trouble sneaking into the house. The only way you can fumble this is if you decide to hold a torch or make a lot of noise while inside the carpenter’s house.

Alternatively, you can enter the house during the day. You are very likely going to get caught, but with enough charisma, you can talk your way out of any trouble and are free to steal the lute once the owner leaves the room.

If you have no way of breaking into the house at the moment, check out our guide on where to buy lockpicks in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for more information. As long as you have even just a bit of Groschen, you should be able to stock up on a lot of them!
