In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, there are a lot of weapons that you can collect, and Henry can learn how to use pretty much anything with enough practice. There is a wide range of swords that you can use, and those of the short variety are light and great for quick stabbing attacks. In this list, we will go through some of the best shortswords that you can get in the game!
Best 5 Shortswords in the Game
There are several types of swords in the game, and shortswords in particular are great choices in general unless you specifically need a blunt weapon. These are easy to find all around the game, and below are some of the blades that you should consider looking for.
NOTE: There will be at least one major story spoiler present here, though we will try to be as vague as possible. You have been warned!
Shortsword #1 – The Basilard
The basilard is a type of blade that can be bought from a handful of blacksmiths or occasionally found in various storage containers all around the game’s two regions. Some enemies can drop it as well, and you may not need to look far and wide as it is a fairly common drop.
Lore-wise, the weapon supposedly originated from the city of Basel in Switzerland, though no one can confirm if this is true. In some areas during the medieval age, peasants were also forbidden from owning swords. Due to its size, it is technically not considered as one, so even commoners can have one. This might explain why a lot of bandits have it.
As far as stats go, the tier 3 variant of the weapon boasts a stab of 115, slash of 121, 198 defense, and a durability of 108. It has very low blunt damage, though that should already be a given considering that it is a blade.
You can also craft one of these yourself if you can find the recipe for it, and it can potentially have even better stats. The Sketch – Basilard item needed to make your own can be found in a cave near Apollonia, which is in the Trosky region. The recipe calls for:
1x Fastening Material
1x Copper
1x Exotic Wood
1x Toledo Steel
1x Iron
Shortsword #2 – The Knight’s Sword
The Knight’s sword is exactly what the name implies. It is a fairly basic weapon that, according to the description, is great against heavily armored enemies due to its weighty tip.
Just like the basilard, this can be purchased from various blacksmiths around the map. It is also a fairly common weapon among tougher enemies. Due to its nature, most lower level enemies will likely not have one, so do not expect the common bandit to be carrying one of these.
The Knight’s sword boasts a higher stat line of 149 stab, 157 slash, 225 defense, 238 durability, and even a barelyokay47blunt. It supposedly can be crafted, though most players have reported that its sketch is bugged.
As far as shortswords go, this is actually one of the best options in terms of longevity due to its highdurability. It also has respectable damage overall, just slightly above the next option, which is…
Shortsword #3 – The Noble’s Sword
The Noble’s sword is, as the name implies, a blade crafted specifically for those higher up on the social ladder. It is supposedly one of the better shortswords when it comes to value and stats, though it has one glaring weakness.
It can be acquired through various merchants and blacksmiths, particularly in the Kuttenberg region. There are also a few chests that can have it, or a few names NPCs that you can take it from.
In terms of stats, it can have a stab of 143, slash of 150, defense of 213, and a very low 52 durability. As you can see, it is relativelybrittle compared to the other options in this list, but its damage is definitely on the higher end.
It can be crafted if you find the Sketch – Noble’s Sword in an abandoned forge near Mesoles. If you plan on making your own, you will also require the following materials:
1x Decorated sword pommel
1x Deer skin
1x Horned sword guard
1x Iron
1x Toledo Steel
Shortsword #4 – Lord von Bergow’s Sword
From the name alone, this weapon is already a massive spoiler for a potential outcome in the main story. You can probably figure it out from here, and you cannot craft your own version of it, so we will just go straight to the stats for this one.
This blade has a stab of 149, slash of 157, 225 defense, and around 120 durability. It is basically a less durable version of the Knight’s sword. The main difference is that you can just kind of acquire this by progressing through the game.
It has the same appearance as the Noble’s sword, which makes sense considering who the original owner is. It is a decent “free” weapon to have until you can get your hands on the absolute best shortsword in the game, which is next on the list.
Shortsword #5 – Sword of Sir Valentine
The Sword of Sir Valentine is a weapon that you can craft during and after completing a side quest called “The Reliquary”. This can be started by talking to a Humble Knight, who is found to the northwest of the Sedletz Monastery.
It is not a particularly tough or complicated quest, so feel free to do it whenever you can once you reach the Kuttenberg region. The blade is basically a replica of the weapon Sir Valentine used to have, and we will leave the rest of the details for you to discover on your own.
You actually forge this as a part of the side quest, though you may not be able to test it out yet as you complete it for reasons we won’t disclose. You will need the following materials in order to make it:
1x Copper
1x Straight sword guard
1x Cow skin
1x Coin sword pommel
1x Frankfurt steel
1x Scrap metal
Its stats are a whopping 159 stab, 167 slash, 242 defense and a durability of 128. Although not the sturdiest blade, it is definitely the most powerful shortswords of the bunch. It also has a somewhat unique appearance, which might be another incentive to get it as soon as you can.
And those are some of the best shortswords you can get in the game. There are multiple other weapon types, some of which much more devastating in combat, so keep on forging or looting!
