We all love little critters, don’t we? The Clash of Clans devs certainly seems to do, as the new update dropped four new Hero pets. In this article, we will take look at how to unlock them and their abilities.

How to Unlock New Pets in Clash of Clans

With the arrival of Town Hall 15, you will be able to upgrade your Pet House to a new cap of level 8. Each new level from 5 to 8 will unlock one of the new Pets, in order. Here’s what you need to know about each upgrade:

Pet House Lvl 5

  • Costs 19.75 million Elixir
  • Has an upgrade time of 19 days
  • The hit points will increase to 1050
  • Unlocks Frosty

Pet House Lvl 6

  • Costs 20 million Elixir
  • Has an upgrade time of 19 days and 6 hours
  • The hit points will increase to 1100
  • Unlocks Diggy

Pet House Lvl 7

  • Costs 20.25 million Elixir
  • Has an upgrade time of 19 days and 12 hours
  • The hit points will increase to 1150
  • Unlocks Poison Lizard

Pet House Lvl 8

  • Costs 20.50 million Elixir
  • Has an upgrade time of 19 days and 18 hours
  • The hit points will increase to 1200
  • Unlocks Phoenix

Now that you know the costs and unlock order, let’s take a closer look to the pets.

Frosty

  • Favorite target: within 4.5 tiles of Hero
  • Damage type: Single target
  • Targets: Ground and Aerial
  • Movement speed: 24

Frosty is a cool seal with the special ability Freezy Friends, that lets him spawn Frostmites periodically against nearby defenses.

These Frostmites slow down the defenses they hit, targeting them automatically. The number of Frostmites increases to 2 at level 5, so try to get Frosty to that lvl as soon as possible.

Diggy

  • Favorite target: Hero’s target
  • Damage type: Single target
  • Targets: Ground
  • Movement speed: 32

Diggy is an introvert that nonetheless will face up against whoever or whatever your Hero’s attacking. Its special ability Stunning Surprise has them dig up before coming up to stun nearby defenses.

Like with Frosty, getting Diggy to level 5 as soon as possible is advantageous as it increases the amount of stun time by 0.5 seconds, and then another 0.5 seconds at max level.

In addition, if your Hero is downed during a fight, Diggy will immediately search for a new Hero to bond.

Poison Lizard

  • Favorite target: Heroes and troops
  • Damage type: Single target
  • Targets: Ground and Air
  • Movement speed: 36

Poison Lizard may be the most situational and straightforward of the new Pets and the DPS among them.

It packs quick ranged attacks that deal Poison damage, a commodity granted by its special ability Bad Breath. As it is poison, the heroes and enemy troops attacked by your Poison Lizard will be slowed, making them easy prey.

Phoenix

  • Favorite target: Hero’s target
  • Damage type: Area splash
  • Targets: Ground and Air
  • Movement speed: 16

Phoenix as a pet appears like an egg next to your Hero, doing… nothing. But when your Hero is about to go down the special ability Fiery Finale activates, making Phoenix a strong contender for making it the new best Pet, as it’ll grant your Hero (and itself) a moment of invulnerability with a max of 8 seconds at the max level of the Pet.

After the invulnerability passes, your Hero will be out no matter what, but the Phoenix will live on and continue attacking.
