“Capture the Yian Kut-Ku” is an objective of the “New Ecosystems” quest in Chapter 4-1 of Monster Hunter Wilds.

This quest somewhat doubles as a tutorial, teaching you the very basics of the capturing system in Monster Hunter Wilds. If you haven’t been making use of it, it’s time to start doing so! Yian Kut-Ku is a fairly low-risk target to learn the system with, too.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to capture the Yian Kut-Ku as part of the main story.

Capture the Yian Kut-Ku Guide | Monster Hunter Wilds

The first thing you need to do to capture the Yian Kut-Ku as part of the “New Ecosystems” quest is to simply fight it. Focus on dealing damage to it and weakening it.

Once you’ve dealt enough damage, Alma will say that you received some supplies for capturing monsters. You’ll also notice that the Yian Kut-Ku will start limping and may even try to flee to a different area.

As soon as you hear Alma mention the supplies, get on your Seikret and access its pouch. Grab the EZ Tranq Bombs (pink smoke cloud icon) and the EZ Shock Traps (yellow icon with a lizard and rectangle). Put them in your main inventory.

Next, you need to make sure that the Yian Kut-Ku is still trying to fight you. If it fled, simply chase it down until it decides to fight you again. Do not attack it anymore, though, as you don’t want to kill it!

When you’ve re-engaged the monster, use the EZ Shock Trap to place it at your feet. Stand on top of the trap and bait the Yian Kut-Ku’s attacks so that it stands on the trap. It’ll get shocked and be stopped for a while when it steps on the trap.

As soon as the Yian Kut-Ku activates the EZ Shock Trap, swap your items to the EZ Tranq Bombs. Throw the bombs at the monster and it should fall asleep. As far as we can tell, 2 EZ Tranq Bombs are enough to put this Yian Kut-Ku to sleep. This will complete the objective and quest, so that’s all you need!

That’s how to capture the Yian Kut-Ku in Monster Hunter Wilds. This same method works for other monsters, too, but you’ll need your own Traps and Tranq Bombs. Nonetheless, this hunt is over…
