PlayStation has just reached its 30th year of existence, and what better way to celebrate it than to give fans the opportunity to pre-order a $325 deluxe photography book, right? Right?
Well, at least that’s what Sony’s global marketing VP Isabelle Tomatis likes to think. In the recent PlayStation blog, Tomatis pointed out that “Players will get a glimpse into never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches, and design models that shaped hardware development at Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
It’s worth noting that the book also has a Standard edition which costs $125 to pre-order. Meanwhile, the Deluxe edition features stuff like “exposed binding, a clamshell presentation box, and exclusive prints”.

With only 1,994 copies available, Sony is attempting to make it limited in numbers as they believe it’s sure to become a coveted collector’s item.
And if the books aren’t enough to convince you, they’re also releasing sneakers in collaboration with Reebok to pay homage to the original PlayStation console.
Needless to say, this move left a bad taste on the mouths of many fans, with some expressing their disappointment in Reddit and X. As of this writing, roughly around 1,500 Deluxe edition books are left for pre-order.
