In a series of lawsuits, it seems like one entity is caught in the crosshairs of Nintendo’s legal team yet again. This time, Nintendo is up against a Reddit user known as u/Archbox for allegedly pirating and distributing “hundreds or thousands of copyrighted Nintendo Switch Games.”

The defendant this time is an individual known as James C. Williams, who goes by the username u/Archbox on Reddit. According to Nintendo’s legal team, Williams has been owning and managing several online pirate shops.

They even went as far as naming Williams as the “leading” moderator of the r/SwitchPirates subreddit.

It’s worth noting that a summons was served to Williams back in November 2024 after an investigation was conducted by law firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp. However, since he decided not to respond, Nintendo is granted the ability to demand compensation without the former’s input.

Even $4.5 Million is Nowhere Near a Fair Compensation for the Defendant’s Conduct

According to the court motion which was filed on October 3, Nintendo is seeking a compensation of $4.5 million. However, they argue that the money involved is nowhere near the amount which would compensate the company for the seriousness of such conduct.

Moreover, the court motion stated that “The popularity of Nintendo’s video games and consoles has made Nintendo an ongoing target of intellectual property thieves and hackers. These individuals or entities benefit from Nintendo’s innovation.”

It can be recalled that just last month, Nintendo has also demanded a $2 million settlement against Ryan Daly, another Switch modder known for creating and selling the MIG-Switch flashcart.

As of this writing, there’s no ruling of the case yet, and Williams is yet to respond to the lawsuit. Regardless, Nintendo’s case remains strong, and chances are high that they might end up getting the $4.5 million compensation.
