Cyberpunk 2077 fans who are patiently awaiting the release of Cyberpunk 2 are in for a treat, as CDPR’s recent job listing hints at a potential online multiplayer feature.
In their job listing which they posted at X, CDPR is looking to hire a bunch of individuals for different positions to work on their upcoming projects, namely The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. What’s interesting is their opening for the Lead Network Engineer position.
The job description says, “As a Lead Network Engineer, you and your team will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems.”
It also includes a couple of daily responsibilities, one of which revolves around developing and optimizing multiplayer systems, including matchmaking.
It can be recalled that Cyberpunk 2077 was always designed to have a multiplayer component. However, CD Projekt Red retracted that decision and decided to just put away any plans for multiplayer for good. Instead, they focus all of their resources on optimizing the main game and developing the Phantom Liberty DLC.
But with their recent job listing, it seems we’re finally getting that multiplayer feature they promised years ago. Of course, there’s no solid confirmation from their side yet, but if anything, it seems everything is headed in that direction.
We can’t wait to see how they’re going to implement multiplayer in a primarily single-player story-driven game. Unfortunately, it will still be a very long time before we even see a glimpse of how this feature might look like.
As of now, CDPR is focusing on the development of The Witcher 4 which is slated to release sometime in 2027.
