STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is now available after over a decade since the last game in the franchise. Although it is still a bit rough around the edges, the game is already popping off and players are learning all of the new mechanics. In this guide, we will be showing you how to upgrade weapons so that you can (hopefully) improve your chances of survival as you roam around the game’s harsh radioactive world.

How to Upgrade Weapons (Silencers, Attachments, Upgrades, and More)

Simply put, you can upgrade your gear at any technician NPC, which can be found scattered all around the map. They usually hang out in settlements, and if you are reading this, then you are likely just starting out.

As such, you should know that one of the first (if not the first) technicians that you can find is going to be in the starting area of Zalissya. His name is Lens, and he can be found just a short walk away from Zalissya Bar. Refer to the map image below for his exact spot.

Lens doubles as a quest giver, though you do not need to complete it in order to make use of his services. Bring up the upgrade menu via whichever button prompt is on your screen, which can be seen at the lower right corner of your screen.

With the upgrade menu open, you can check all of your armor and weapons to see what attachments the technician can, well, attach for you. You can browse for possible attachments by clicking on the different modules of the weapon, which have a white dot on it.

Most of the time, these will only require you to spend coupons, though certain upgrades might also need a blueprint first. It should also be noted that not all technicians can install every upgrade, so you will need to find a different one if you get an error stating that they cannot help you.

Finally, one last thing to keep in mind is that there are upgrades that require you to get other addons first. On top of that, some upgrades branch out to multiple choices, and picking one will prevent you from getting the other.

NOTE: If your weapon’s condition is too low, you will need to repair it first. The technician can also do this for you, though the cost might be a little too high. You can check this at the bottom right corner of the upgrade screen.

Using Attachments

With certain upgrades, some guns can gain the ability to utilize attachments. To do this, you will first need to hold your weapon and then press T on your keyboard or up on the D-pad if you are using a controller.

This will bring up a small interface on your screen indicating which attachments in your inventory you can use on your current weapon. Selecting one will play an animation depending on your choice.

Again, you might need to upgrade your gun at a technician first before you can use some attachments. For example, some weapons will need you to add a scope mount first before you can plug in your own sights.

That is pretty much everything you need to know in order to get started with the game’s upgrade system. There are various other technicians to find after Lens, so make sure to keep track of where they all are when you meet them as you will likely need their services too!
